A Regency style side table in black lacquer with gilt detailing, hand-painted Chinoiserie floral decoration, and an integral brass gallery top. The combination of Regency form and Chinoiserie ornament gives the table a sophisticated, slightly whimsical character.
The fixed brass top is designed in the manner of a traditional serving tray, with a raised gallery punctuated by small finials and opposing handles. The brass has developed a warm, naturally aged patina with variations to the surface that add considerable character.
The architectural black lacquered base is outlined throughout in gold, with shaped aprons and distinctive clustered legs. Delicate hand-painted floral sprays in shades of red, cream and gold embellish the front legs, with one decoration bearing the painted initials “J.J.”
A particularly charming and unusual accent piece, equally suited as a side table, drinks table, or occasional table beside a sofa or lounge chair.
Circa 1970s–1980s. Hand-painted decoration signed “J.J.” Brass retains its naturally aged patina, with wear and variations to the painted and gilt surfaces consistent with age and use.
