Opening its doors in 1927, The Russian Tea Room was founded by former members of the Russian Imperial Ballet and became a celebrated gather place for Russian expatriates and New York's theater, film, and arts communities. High-profile guests have included Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Mel Brooks, Barbara Streisand, and more. In 1979 Madonna worked at the Russian Tea Room as as a coat clerk. The Russian Tea Room has become part of New York popular culture in its own right, appearing in films and television series including When Harry Met Sally..., Tootsie, Gossip Girl, and The Nanny.
