An elegant bronze female figure by American sculptor Tom Corbin (b. 1954), signed and numbered 36/40. The sculpture pairs a slender, elongated silhouette with richly textured modeling and a deep brown patina, warmed by bronze highlights across the raised surfaces.
Its attenuated proportions and expressive surface recall Alberto Giacometti, while the armless torso evokes the classical beauty of the Venus de Milo and surviving fragments of ancient sculpture. These visual affinities lend the piece a compelling balance of antiquity and modernism, expressed through Corbin’s distinctive interpretation of the female form.
The subtly shifting stance and beautifully modeled back reward viewing from every angle. An irregular, integral bronze base continues the sculpture’s organic texture. At 10.5 inches tall and nearly four pounds, it has substantial weight and an intimate scale well suited to a console, bookshelf, desk, or curated grouping on a coffee table.
Based in Kansas City, Corbin began his full-time sculpture career in 1986 and is known for expressive figurative bronzes as well as sculptural furniture. His work is represented in private collections and public installations, with commissions including a bronze monument of President Harry S. Truman for the U.S. Capitol.
A distinctive collectible bronze with a graceful silhouette and enduring appeal for both classical and modern interiors.
