A vibrant still life from what was probably Jean Lehman's most important creative period in Dachau (1922-36). Horst Heres wrote about this time:
"It was his most productive period. He regularly participated in the exhibitions of the Munich Secession and the Dachau Artists' Association."

Swiss painter, graphic artist, sculptor.
Lehmann altered his signature or monogram somewhat in the early days before, from about the mid-1920s onward, he primarily signed his documents with "JllS" (i.e., "Jean Lehmann Luzern Schweiz (bör St. Moritz)").

1900-05 At his parents' request, he trained in the hotel industry and attended business school, while also taking drawing classes at the Lucerne School of Applied Arts.
1905-07 He worked as an accountant in Sardinia to finance his subsequent art studies.
1907 He attended the Venice Academy of Fine Arts for two semesters.
Afterwards, he worked as a museum attendant to finance his studies in Munich.
1910 He studied graphic design at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts.
Around 1910, he likely visited Dachau for the first time.
1912-22 He lived and worked in St. Moritz, working as an ice skating instructor in the winter.
1922-36 He lived and worked in Dachau.
During his time in Dachau, and especially after his return to Switzerland, Lehmann frequently traveled to St. Moritz to paint.
1936 He returned to Switzerland.

1912-18 Regular painting exhibitions in the St. Moritz community hall, together with artists including Peter Robert Berry, Christian Conradin, and Giovanni Giacometti, Augusto Giacometti, Carl von Salis, Edgar Vital, Gottardo Segantini
1913-14 Lehmann paints the diorama "St. Moritz in Winter" for the 1914 Swiss National Exhibition in Bern
1913, 1915, 1917/18, 1919 and 1921 Participation in exhibitions at the Kunsthaus Zürich
1917 Participation in an exhibition at the Kunsthalle Basel
1919 Participation in the "Exhibition of Paintings by Engadine Artists" in the Volkshaus Hall in Chur
1923-36 Participation in exhibitions of the Munich Secession and the Dachau Artists' Association
1928 Participation in the 17th National Art Exhibition at the Kunsthaus Zürich
1929 Participation in the rotating exhibition of the Swiss Art Association at the Kunstmuseum Luzern and the Kunstmuseum Winterthur
1930-31 Participation in the summer art exhibition at Dachau Castle
1934 Participation in the rotating exhibition of the Swiss Art Association at the Kunsthaus Luzern
1943 Exhibition of graphic works at the Kongresshaus Zürich; 1945 Retrospective exhibition at the Kongresshaus Zürich with a selection of his paintings, prints, and sculptures from the previous thirty years
1973 Jean Lehmann Memorial Exhibition at the Kleine Galerie in Chur
2015 Exhibition “Engadine Landscapes” at the ASTE Gallery in St. Moritz
2016-17 Exhibition “Jean Lehmann. Engadine. Hobby. Passion. Painter.” at the Capauliana Foundation in Chur
