Gouache, overall dimensions approx. 30 x 39.8 cm, sheet dimensions approx. 24 x 33.5 cm. This exceptionally lively and colorful work captivates with a heartwarming, village winter scene executed in a charming and detailed naive style. At the center of the snow-covered scene, a strong red horse pulls a wooden sleigh on which lies a large brown bear, while cheerful villagers in traditional winter clothing excitedly observe the proceedings. The large, almost stylized snowflakes and the highly simplified architectural elements of the typical wooden houses in the background lend the composition a fairytale-like and strongly folkloric character. from an art historical perspective, this work fits seamlessly into the tradition of Naïve Art, where the carefree, childlike narrative joy and vibrant colors always take clear precedence over academic perspective or strict rules of proportion.
