Heinrich Pforr is considered one of the most important representatives of Hessian regional art and was a key member of the renowned Willingshausen Artists' Colony, the oldest artists' association of its kind. Following in the footsteps of his teacher Carl Bantzer, he dedicated his life's work to depicting the North Hessian landscape and the traditional way of life of its inhabitants, achieving a masterful balance between meticulous realism and an atmospheric, late-Impressionist use of light. His works are of great art historical significance, as they preserve the identity and customs of the Schwalm region with a painterly virtuosity that made Pforr one of the most esteemed chroniclers of his homeland. The finely textured charcoal drawing shows the portrait of a woman in profile with her hair piled high and her hand rendered with particular sensitivity in a serene pose. Hand drawings from the artist's personal circle possess a special sentimental and material collector's value for connoisseurs of the Willingshausen School.
