Heinrich Pforr is considered one of the most important Hessian landscape painters of the 20th century and was deeply rooted throughout his life in the renowned Willingshausen artists' colony, whose tradition of unembellished and realistic plein air painting he masterfully continued in his extensive oeuvre. In his works, the artist virtuously captures traditional rural life, the distinctive characters of the Schwalm region, and the unmistakable light of the Hessian landscape, his practiced and precise line creating tremendous vibrancy and atmospheric density. The present work depicts, in precise, sketchy pencil strokes, a resting farm worker sitting sideways on a meticulously drawn piece of agricultural equipment, presumably a seed drill or a plough, in the middle of a wide field.
