Münden) four drawings on two sheets, Home Slaughter of a Pig, probably "Butcher at Work" — sketch sheet, undated, BLEIST/PP, approx. 13.8 × 22.1 cm. The vividly rendered sheet depicts several people in a rural slaughtering scene: On the left, two figures are bent over an elongated animal carcass lying on the ground; a bucket in the center of the image underscores the practical, rural setting, while on the right another figure is working with an animal. Pforr's powerful, spontaneous pencil strokes capture the movement of the workers with great anatomical accuracy and expressive linework — entirely in keeping with his realistic genre art, in which he depicted everyday scenes of rural Northern Hesse. As a student of Caspar Ritter and a master student of Ferdinand von Keller at the Karlsruhe Academy of Fine Arts, as well as being influenced by Hans Thoma, Pforr developed a distinctive realistic style to which he remained true until his death. The scenes depicted undoubtedly originate from the rural milieu of his North Hessian homeland around Hann. Münden, where Pforr worked as a freelance artist from 1907 onwards and settled in the house "Vogelsang." Pencil drawings from his estate, comprising approximately 294 documented sketches, are of particular collector value as direct evidence of his work.
