the lamp features a long, slender leaf-shaped brass back plate, with the edges individually flame-treated to create an irregular, richly textured surface. A second, smaller brass leaf is positioned in front of the gold-painted bulb socket, acting as a diffuser and partially screening the light source.

the two overlapping leaf forms create a distinctive sculptural silhouette and an atmospheric play of light and shadow when illuminated.

rather than reproducing a particular botanical species, holm-sørensen used the broad, tapering form of a leaf as the basis for this expressive design. The combination of organic form, worked brass and deliberately irregular edges is characteristic of his highly individual approach to metal lighting.

this is model 5304, a rare example of holm-sørensen's leaf-form lighting. Related designs were produced in both brass and copper, with variations in shape and finish.

svend aage holm-sørensen (1913–2004) was one of denmark's most distinctive lighting designers of the post-war period.

originally trained as an ornamental metalworker, he developed a highly sculptural approach to lighting, working extensively with brass and copper. His designs often incorporated pierced, cut, folded or flame-treated metal to create distinctive surfaces and dramatic lighting effects.
