An exceptional pair of large vintage Chinoiserie table lamps by high-end lighting designer Frederick Cooper, circa 1970-1980. Made in the form of classic oversized tea canisters, each lamp features a rich emerald green lacquered toleware body set upon a stepped bronze toned base. The bodies are hand-painted with Chinoiserie scenes in soft earth tones and gold gilding, illustrating stags under botanical canopies, perched songbirds, delicate butterflies, and intricate lattice border detailing. Both lamps retain their original silky pleated empire shades, bearing the authentic embroidered Frederick Cooper label inside. Fitted with original brass socket cups, harps, and matching brass ball finials. In excellent condition, both the lamps and the shades - someone loved these very much and preserved them with much care.
They are large, very imposing and rather striking.
