This is a magnificent vintage Chinese Huali (Rosewood) Tea Tray, intricately carved and inlaid with luminous Mother-of-Pearl (MOP).
The tray features an elaborate, scalloped border heavily carved with scrolling clouds and fierce Foo Dog (Guardian Lion) heads on the sides. The central panel is decorated with a beautiful MOP inlay depicting a classic "Lion and Ball" scene.
Two playful lions, one large and one small (symbolizing "Tai Shi Shao Shi" - generational prosperity), are shown playing with a ribboned ball. The iridescent pearl inlay (yellow/gold and red) contrasts exquisitely against the rich, reddish-brown wood grain.
This tray is a perfect example of traditional Chinese craftsmanship and auspicious symbolism.
