A superb decorative display piece from the renowned Grimwades potteries, this Royal Winton centerpiece bowl is a quintessential example of high-glamour Art Deco lustreware. Characterised by a luminous, iridescent finish that shifts with the light, the bowl features bold, hand-painted stylised florals in the late Art Deco manner. Its substantial architectural form and striking metallic sheen make it a formidable statement piece for a maximalist interior or a specialist collection of English decorative arts.
The bowl has an elegant elongated form with a scalloped gilt rim, raised pedestal base and ornate twin scrolling handles. It retains its original removable pierced ceramic flower holder, designed to support and arrange individual flower stems within the bowl.
This makes it an excellent piece for floral arrangements; when combined with flowers, the vivid iridescent colours and sculptural form create a uniquely vibrant and decorative display.
Lustre Artistry and Decorative Aesthetic
Iridescent Lustre Glaze: The exterior is bathed in a superior iridescent finish that displays a spectrum of pearlescent colors, from golden ambers to deep violets.
Stylised Floral Enamelling: Adorned with vibrant, hand-applied enamels featuring geometric flower motifs and abstract foliage on both sides of the bowl.
Ornate Scroll Handles: Twin handles with elegant scroll detailing provide a graceful counterpoint to the bowl's structured, stepped base.
Contrast Interior: The interior of the bowl transitions into a soft, luminous enamel green, creating a beautiful dual-tone effect when viewed from above.
The exterior is decorated with bold stylised geometric flowers and foliage in jewel-like colours, giving the piece a distinctly Art Deco and Jazz Age character. The sculptural twin handles are finished in a deep iridescent glaze and picked out with gilded details.
Originally designed as a functional floral centrepiece, its generous scale, architectural form and remarkable shifting lustre make it equally impressive displayed as a decorative object. A beautiful statement piece for a dining table, console, sideboard, mantel or window setting.
Made by Grimwades under the Royal Winton name.
