Combining deeply textured ceramic with spherical opaline glass globes, the lamps reflect the expressive character of 1970s Space Age design, interpreted through the earthy colours and tactile materials typical of the period.

Each lamp is formed around a substantial ceramic body with a distinctive curved profile. The ceramic projects outward from the wall to support the spherical glass globe, while the upper section rises behind it in a continuous sculptural form. Deep horizontal relief follows the contours of the ceramic and accentuates its organic shape. The dark brown glaze further emphasises the texture, creating subtle differences in tone across the surface.

The spherical opaline glass globe provides a clear contrast with the strongly textured ceramic. Its smooth surface and pure geometric form introduce the Space Age character of the design, while the opaline glass softly diffuses the light when illuminated. The combination of earthy ceramic and white glass creates a balanced interplay between organic texture and geometric form.

Doria was established in Germany in 1945 and developed into a prominent manufacturer of decorative lighting. from its production facilities near Fürth, the company became particularly known for its creative use of glass and expressive lighting forms. During the post-war decades, Doria produced an extensive range of table lamps, floor lamps, wall lights and chandeliers and collaborated with German designers including Wilhelm Braun-Feldweg.

These wall lamps are characteristic of Doria’s more sculptural lighting from the 1970s, combining functional illumination with a strong decorative presence. Both lamps have been rewired and fitted with new opaline glass globes. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
