with this set, consisting of the Maralunga three-seater and matching armchair, you're bringing two pieces of one of the most awarded seating designs ever into your living room. Vico Magistretti designed the Maralunga for Cassina in 1973, and it won the Compasso d'Oro in 1979. The story behind it is legendary: Cesare Cassina supposedly disliked the prototype so much that he smashed it, breaking the backrest, which then fell into the exact bent shape that makes the piece famous today. Magistretti is said to have declared it perfect. The real ingenuity lies invisibly within the upholstery. An ordinary bicycle chain is embedded in the foam of the backrest—you use it to fold the back cushion upwards, where it becomes a headrest. In one simple movement, the low, lounge-style seat transforms into a high-backed chair with full neck support, and back again. Each of the four seats can be adjusted individually. Because the sofa and armchair come from the same factory, the leather tone and patina are a perfect match—no small feat for a classic that has been in production for over fifty years. Set: Three-seater + armchair. Manual function: Backrests can be individually folded up to create a headrest. Design: Vico Magistretti for Cassina, 1973. Awarded the Compasso d'Oro 1979. Patented chain mechanism in the back cushion. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
