Henry Plawin was an American artist, born in Chicago in 1910 and deceased in 1986. He worked as a commercial artist in New York City and Miami, taught art at the University of Miami, and is known particularly for maritime paintings. Auction databases list his works, including oils, and at least five recorded works have appeared at auction.
The initials “SMP” beside the signature are generally presented in current market listings as referring to the Society of Marine Painters. Plawin marine work also describes “SMP” next to his signature.
