Turn an incredible piece of history into the focal point of your living room! This statement coffee table is beautifully crafted from an authentic, reclaimed 19th-century haveli (townhouse) door originating from Northwest India (Rajasthan/Gujarat region, circa 1880–1900).
The door has been expertly preserved and converted into a highly functional, square coffee table with a custom-fitted protective glass top.
Embossed Brass Insets (Kamangari influence): The panels are covered in thin, hand-embossed brass sheets featuring a repeating jal (floral trellis) pattern.
Hand-Carved Wooden Framing: Look closely at the wooden dividers directly framing the brass. They feature delicate chip-carving, including a continuous rope-like twist border and small triangular geometric notches. This level of meticulous detail is indicative of traditional village carpentry (Suthar community work).
Border Carvings: The outer frame features a shallow, hand-carved undulating floral vine pattern (bel or vellidesign). This stylized botanical relief is typical of architectural woodwork from the late Mughal and British Colonial crossover periods.
Asymmetrical Iron Strapping: The dark iron structural band running horizontally is secured with hand-hammered pin-rivets. You can see slight irregularities in how the metal was cut and beaten, confirming it is pre-industrial forge work.
Built to Last: Incredibly heavy, sturdy, and structurally rock-solid.
Dimensions:
* Width: 42 inches
* Depth: 42 inches
* Height: 19 inches
The preservation of the brass sheeting is remarkable. Because these doors were exposed to the elements for decades before being salvaged, the brass has developed a beautiful, muted verdigris and golden-brown patina.
It serves as an excellent example of functional Indian architectural art before modern industrial manufacturing techniques took over.
