Purvis Young (American, 1943-2010) original mixed media painting on found paper. Ink and watercolor. Outsider art depicting abstract figures. Signed to upper right. Retains original JOY MOOS GALLERY label.
Purvis Young grew up in the Overtown neighborhood of Miami. As a teenager, he was sentenced to three years in prison for breaking and entering. While incarcerated, he rediscovered his childhood passion for drawing. After his release in 1964, Young began to paint using acrylic and commercial paint on assemblages of found wood, cardboard, masonite, and whatever materials were available to him. Young was a prolific painter and his work is widely exhibited and collected today.
Dimensions: Site is 10.5" high x 8" wide; with frame 12" high x 10" wide.
Condition: Good overall condition with slight wrinkling to paper consistent with intent.
