The original is on display at the Sarnath Museum Varanasi in India and symbolizes power, courage, and pride. This example features four highly detailed Asiatic lions standing back-to-back on a thick, circular ring base, facing outward toward the cardinal directions. Each lion is rendered with an open mouth, exposed fangs, a stylized tongue, and a deeply carved, flowing mane that merges seamlessly with the others at the center. The top surface of the piece is formed by the flat crowns of the lions' heads, creating a stable, level support structure ideal for holding a glass or stone table top. The natural white marble displays a smooth, honed texture with subtle gray veining throughout, giving the classical monument-inspired architectural piece an elegant and substantial presence.
