This sculptural, ceramic garden seat reinvents the barrel shape of classic Chinese drum stools. Slip casted in low relief, a pattern of boss-head nails rings the top and bottom, imitating those used to stretch hide on an actual drum.
The gently curved sides are decorated with a pattern of interlocking coins, a motif for good fortune and prosperity. The coin design is perforated and open, shaped with a ribbed texture that resembles coiled rope or bamboo lashing.
A milky white glaze cloaks the exterior with a glossy finish, pooling in the contours for added depth and subtle tonal variance. Suitable for outdoor use, the glazed drum layers into modern interiors as an easy side table, patio table or garden stool.
