Dated to the early 20th century, this upright cabinet from northern China has a timeless and minimal design that blends into any interior. The slender cabinet was likely part of a traditional wedding dowry, bestowed upon the groom by the bride's family filled with fine silks, linens, and other gifts.
Tailored like a good suit, the square-corner cabinet has been modified to a narrowed frame in keeping with traditional joinery methods. The double doors open to reveal three shelves and an interior drawer, while two exterior drawers provide additional storage below. A dark brown finish of gently worn lacquer accentuates the clean lines, decorated only by the soft gleam of the original brass hardware.
