Described in ancient Chinese texts as a “full moon dyed with spring water,” celadon bowls and plates are prized for their soft color and luminous sheen. Perfected over centuries, celadon glaze ranges in color from blue-grey to olive green, owing to the amount of iron oxide added to the glaze. The delicate curves of this 19th-century bowl allows the pale celadon glaze to shine, adorned only with a painted blue mark on the base and a pinprick etching that names its previous owner.
