A wide nautical wall mirror from the La France Art Company, the Philadelphia maker known for its jacquard tapestry pictures in the 1920s. Two woven panels of tall ships at anchor flank a central mirror, all set in a carved frame washed in soft green and gold with a scrolled crest across the top. The weaving is real jacquard, not a print, so the ships hold their detail in thread.
This is the kind of piece that does the decorating for you. Hang it in an entry, over a console, or in a study where the sepia palette and the ships read as old New England without trying too hard.
Antique and honest. The frame shows age wear to the gilt and paint, the tapestry panels have gentle toning and light wear to the weave, and the mirror carries a little of the soft spotting old glass earns. The original La France paper label is still on the reverse. Solid and ready to hang.
