Founded in 1882 by August Lüchow on East 14th Street, Lüchow’s became a fixture of old New York, known for its German cooking, beer, music, and elaborate dining rooms. Over the decades, the restaurant attracted figures from the worlds of music, theater, literature, and society and became one of the city’s best-known dining institutions.
