An exceptional mid-century Balinese modernist Art Deco sculpture depicting a traditional harvest maiden. Standing 11.5 inches tall, this investment-grade figure is a verified, hand-signed work by the celebrated Balinese master artisan A. Fatimah, a pioneering female presence within the post-war woodcarving renaissance.
The figure is hand-carved from a single solid block of premium tropical hardwood, most likely Satinwood, showcasing a beautiful uniform chestnut-to-caramel color palette. She is captured in an elegant, fluid walking posture upon a rectangular pedestal block base, cradling a highly textured, hand-chiseled basket filled to the brim with harvested fruits. The artisan’s mastery shines through in the smooth, graceful contours of her bare torso, her serene downcast facial features, and her beautifully pinned hair configuration.
The underside of the base features the crisp, hand-incised master signature reading "A. FATIMAH BALI", ensuring genuine vintage pedigree and direct artist attribution. Preserved in excellent vintage condition, the piece features an immaculate surface luster with all fine fingers, toes, and facial profiles completely intact. Exhibits minor, character-defining vintage grain checking on a lower drapery fold, entirely consistent with its natural mid-century tropical timber origin.
