A matched pair of hand-built copper gas lanterns by Charleston Lighting & Manufacturing of Mobile, Alabama, a coppersmith shop that has been fabricating architectural lighting since 1971 and remains in operation today. Each lantern is formed from 99.9% American-milled copper and carries the maker's serialized data plate.
The form is the classic Gulf Coast gas lantern: a tapered glazed body with a peaked hood and vented chimney cap, seated on a faceted copper base and mounted on a hand-formed double-scroll wall bracket. Four glass panels on a hinged copper door give full view of the burner. The proportions are substantial, intended for a front elevation or a courtyard wall rather than a service entry.
These are equipped with the factory automatic electronic ignition system, a premium option over a standard open-flame burner, visible through the glass as a brass valve body with a ceramic-insulated spark electrode.
Condition is exceptional. Neither lantern was ever installed. The factory shipping tape remains on the glass, the electrical leads were never terminated, and the copper carries its original mill finish with no weathering or applied patina. The pair will develop a natural verdigris once mounted outdoors, or can be lacquered to hold the current bright finish.

Sold as a pair. Serial-numbered by the maker and matched by model, which matters for a symmetrical installation. Never fired and sold untested; commissioning by a licensed gas fitter is expected as part of any installation.
Comparable lanterns of this scale and construction are specified new well above $2,000 each.
