a splendid set of six chairs, designed by the renowned artist joseph-andré motte and produced by the furniture company steiner.
the design of the a6 chairs stands out for its modernity, yet also for its simplicity and elegance. It's a model with a futuristic and somewhat minimalist profile, consisting of just two identical wooden pieces that serve as the backrest and seat, joined together by a toothed system and secured by the metal frame, which also becomes the chair's legs.
despite being designed by joseph-andré motte in 1959, this model was never launched on the market at the time due to its modernity, and it wasn't until the 2000s that the steiner company decided to produce it. This particular set of chairs is a special, luxury edition, featuring very unusual upholstered seats: three in camel-colored leather and three in black leather with a crocodile-skin texture.
joseph-andré motte (1925-2003)
a key designer of post-war french modernism. He was born in southeastern france but moved to paris to study at the school of applied arts for industry. Motte's designs are a blend of the elegance of classic profiles with modern, geometric forms. In his pieces, he always used unusual materials, such as plywood, stainless steel, and rattan, thus becoming one of the most significant french designers of the 20th century.
his furniture is contextualized within a period when architecture, built primarily of concrete, had a cold and austere appearance. His furniture, made of diverse materials and colors, humanized this "cold" and impersonal architecture. Many of his designs were created in collaboration with the steiner furniture company, especially during the 1950s.
