A vintage set of five danish teak dining chairs designed by johannes nørgaard for nørgaards møbelfabrik, produced in denmark during the 1960s. Crafted in warm solid teak with black skai upholstered seats, these scandinavian modern dining chairs combine the restrained proportions, refined joinery and organic detailing associated with danish mid-century modern furniture.
designer: johannes nørgaard
maker: nørgaards møbelfabrik
origin: denmark
period: 1960s
style: danish modern / scandinavian modern / mid-century modern
materials: solid teak, black skai leatherette
dimensions: 50 w × 45 d × 76 h cm (19.7 w × 17.7 d × 29.9 h in)
seat height: 45 cm (17.7 in)
quantity: set of 5
the design is exceptionally clean and well resolved. Slender rounded legs rise almost uninterrupted into the open back, framing a broad, gently curved teak backrest with softened sculpted edges. The subtly bowed seat rail follows the shape of the upholstered seat, creating a light and balanced profile from every angle. Warm teak grain contrasts beautifully with the understated black upholstery, while the restrained construction gives the chairs the quiet architectural quality for which danish modern furniture is so admired.
johannes nørgaard’s dining chairs for nørgaards møbelfabrik form part of the strong danish furniture tradition of the 1960s, when carefully shaped solid teak, ergonomic proportions and minimal detailing were brought together in furniture intended to feel equally refined and functional.
condition
good vintage condition with signs of age and use consistent with the chairs’ period. The teak frames show light surface marks, small scratches and natural variations in tone and patina. The frames present well and appear structurally sound from the supplied photographs. The black vinyl upholstery is in very good condition overall with light surface creasing and minor traces of use. No significant tears or major damage are visible. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
