This is a gorgeous George III Writing Bureau Desk that exudes a wonderful antique style to the living room or office home settings. Circa 1800.
The excellent fall front can be dropped to expose the desk work top, and fitted interior. The desk is supported by two pull out slats with drop handles, that can be extended to hold the desk front open.
There is the original working lock to the desk front that can be locked by the key present (see photograph).The drawers have locks but the key does not lock them.
The striking interior comprises of six beautiful inlaid drawers, with six small drawers hidden above the six pigeon holes. There is also a central door, perfect for storing documents, papers, books or memorabilia, but this does not have a key present to lock.One of the right double drawers' depth is smaller and can be pulled out,revealing a small hidden compartment (see photograph).
The front of the bureau comprises of four wonderful large spacious graduating drawers.
All of the drawers are finished with raised boarders and gorgeous antique swan brass drop handles, finished with fantastic decorative lions.
This handsome Georgian bureau stands proudly on 4 solid figured feet.
The bureau displays a rich mahogany patination that adds a wonderful period character to the home decor.
This timeless Georgian Writing Bureau shows centuries of history and would be a statement piece in the home setting.
Overall, this writing bureau is in great antique condition, with general signs of use, historical wear and scratched, as to be expected from years of historical use (see photographs).
There is a piece of veneer wear missing to one of the interior drawers and to one of the lower graduating drawers (see photographs).
The left pull out support of the bureau has historically had a repair with filler (see photograph).
The right and left side both show historical signs of glue repair (see photographs).
There is a historical crack to the upper drawer (See photograph).
