Acceptance into the Royal Academy’s celebrated exhibitions was one of the highest distinctions available to a British artist, placing Davies’s work before the country’s leading collectors, critics, and cultural figures. To achieve this recognition repeatedly was especially remarkable for a woman working at the turn of the twentieth century. Davies also exhibited with the Royal Cambrian Academy, further establishing her artistic reputation. This signed watercolor depicts a countrywoman walking through a picturesque thatched village surrounded by lush gardens, weathered cottages, and a softly rendered country lane. Presented under glass in a cream-toned frame with a coordinating mat; the frame retains minor age-related wear, including a small chip, as photographed. See less
