The underframe is beech: four turned legs, round in section and tapering to the foot, splayed outward on both axes and passing through the shelf frame to meet the top.

The magazine shelf sits low between the legs, built from a shaped beech frame with slim turned spindles running the length of the table. The end rails are profiled with a curved lower edge. The top is fixed from below with screws set into recessed pockets, visible on the underside along with the shelf frame's through-leg construction.

The 459 belongs to Ercol's Windsor range, produced at High Wycombe, where elm was used for tops and seats and beech for turned components — a material pairing Lucian Ercolani carried across the whole range and the reason for the tonal contrast between top and frame.
