A beautifully expressive carved wood sculpture by renowned Haitian artist Roger François (1928–2013), circa 1970.
The figure has a wonderful sense of quiet elegance—elongated and poised, with one arm raised effortlessly overhead and the other resting at her side. François transforms an everyday moment into something almost monumental, celebrating the grace, strength, and rhythm of Haitian life through a distinctly modern sculptural language.
The warm natural wood and visible hand carving give the piece an especially soulful presence, while the exaggerated proportions and restrained facial features lend it a timeless, almost architectural quality.
Signed by the artist.
