Measuring approximately 34 inches wide, the panoramic composition presents a richly layered village landscape animated by numerous figures harvesting, gathering and transporting rice. Groups of farmers work together across the golden fields, while other figures carry baskets, balance agricultural loads across their shoulders or move through the shallow water. A fisherman occupies the winding stream in the foreground, introducing another element of ordinary rural life.

Rather than relying on conventional Western perspective, Karda builds the landscape vertically and rhythmically. Terraced fields, streams, figures, flowering plants and densely patterned trees overlap one another, allowing the eye to travel continuously across the canvas. The elevated viewpoint transforms the village into an intricate decorative panorama in which human activity and the natural environment are closely interwoven.

I Wayan Karda is identified in an Indonesian National Gallery publication among Balinese painters associated with the decorative and expressive Young Artists style that developed under the influence of Dutch-born artist Arie Smit.

The Young Artists movement is generally associated with the Ubud and Penestanan region beginning in the 1960s.
