A striking vintage Moroccan Berber silver anklet or bracelet that was later repurposed as a decorative catchall or vide-poche with the addition of a brass-colored interior bowl.
The substantial outer form features deeply twisted and ribbed decoration bordered by rows of raised beadwork, creating the bold sculptural appearance associated with traditional North African Berber jewelry. The contrasting warm brass center appears to be a later addition, transforming the original piece of jewelry into a functional decorative object.
Large traditional anklets of this type were worn by Berber women throughout Morocco and North Africa and were often made as substantial statement pieces. Over time, examples were sometimes adapted into ashtrays, small bowls, or catchalls, allowing the original handcrafted metalwork to be displayed and used decoratively.
This piece came from my parents' collection and was stored with their valuables for many years.
The silver-colored portion is unmarked and has not been professionally tested for silver purity; therefore, it is being represented conservatively as Moroccan silver/silver-tone metal rather than sterling silver.
A distinctive piece of Moroccan folk art that works beautifully as a jewelry dish, entryway catchall, tabletop accent, or decorative object.

The silver-colored exterior shows natural patina, oxidation, surface wear, and minor marks appropriate to an older handcrafted object. The brass-colored interior shows age-related patina and surface wear. No major structural damage observed. The contrast in patina and construction suggests that the brass interior was added later, converting the original anklet or bracelet into a decorative catchall. Please review photographs closely as they are considered part of the condition description. less
