Original oil on canvas by Tucson painter Mark Daniels, signed M. Daniels lower right. A pack burro loaded with firewood stands in fresh snow between two adobe houses, a red halter and lead rope against his dark winter coat and a red and teal woven tassel swinging from the load. Long violet shadows rake across the snow in low winter light, a scene straight out of the wood hauler tradition of the northern New Mexico villages. The paint is laid on thick and confident, built from broad mosaic-like patches of color in the Russian impressionist manner.
Daniels studied fine art at the University of Houston and the University of Texas at Austin and trained at the Scottsdale Artists' School. His oils were juried into the national Arts for the Parks exhibition four times between 1994 and 2004, and he was included in the Russian Nights exhibitions at the Taos Art Museum at Fechin House in 2007 and 2008. He has been represented by Tucson galleries including El Presidio and Jane Hamilton Fine Art. Presented in a rustic barnwood style wood frame that suits the subject.
