It is … Read more We are proud to offer this wonderful historical miniature from the 18th Century for the most discriminating collector. It is a French Balloon Motif Miniature, framed Watercolor Painting, of the Ascent at Tuileries Palace, Late 18th Century, This was likely made as a commemorative souvenir of the first manned, hydrogen-filled balloon ascent by Jacques Charles & Marie-Noel Robert, which occurred December 1, 1783 at the Tuileries Palace. It is a beautifully executed painting housed in a simple carved frame. The reverse features a handwritten inscription "Depart des Tuileries"

Circa: Late 18th Century.

Size: Artwork, sight, 2 3/4 inches diameter (7 cm); framed 5 1/8 by 5 inches (13.0 by 12.7 cm.)

PROVENANCE: Bonhams, Fine Ballooning Art: The Property of a Gentleman, 16 December 1991, Lot. 56.

Condition: housed in circular gilt case with glass to face. Added pad to reverse. Circular cutout to reverse frame slightly loose. One minor wormhole to frame face. Some patination spotting to gilt frame face. Wear commensurate with age.
