Measuring nearly five feet across, the painting depicts one of New England’s most recognizable maritime landmarks. Portland Head Light rises prominently above the rocky coastline, accompanied by its historic keeper’s quarters and surrounding outbuildings. The white conical tower, black lantern, red-brown roofs, blue-gray shutters and rambling coastal architecture closely correspond to the celebrated lighthouse complex overlooking Casco Bay.

The artist has arranged the scene as a quiet panoramic coastal vista. Portland Head Light anchors the left side of the composition while the keeper’s buildings extend across the rocky promontory to the right.
