An exceptional mid-century modern abstract biomorphic stone sculpture by artist Van Noorden, dating to the 1970s. This compelling fine art piece is hand-carved from a single block of natural, highly figured brown alabaster. The stone exhibits spectacular organic variegation, featuring deep chocolate tones, translucent honey-amber veins, and raw, textured mineral crusts that contrast beautifully with the smoothly polished, fluid interior curves.
The sculpture's ribbon-like form channels the organic abstraction movements championed by mid-century masters like Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. It is seamlessly mounted to a thick, custom kidney-shaped clear lucite (acrylic) base, a hallmark design pairing of high-end 1970s gallery objects.
The sculpture features the artist's incised signature "Van Noorden" along the upper reverse edge. A commanding, sophisticated focal point for any Post-Modern, Hollywood Regency, or organic contemporary interior.
