This substantial sculptural piece depicts a dramatically projecting horse's head with upright ears, expressive facial features and a deeply modeled, flowing mane.

The hollow construction and open reverse are consistent with large-scale architectural ornaments and commercial trade signs. Sculptural horse heads of this type have historically been associated with European equestrian advertising and decorative architectural elements. As this example is unmarked, we prefer to describe its precise origin and original function as attributed rather than definitive.

The aluminum has developed an attractive aged gray surface with variations in tone, oxidation and wear that beautifully emphasize the modeling of the horse's face, muzzle and mane. The reverse retains an older green-painted surface as well as a metal cross brace and wire hanging mechanism.

With an impressive 16-inch projection from the wall, the horse head has considerable three-dimensional presence. Unlike a conventional wall plaque or relief, the head projects dramatically into the room and can be appreciated from the front, profile and three-quarter views.

A compelling statement piece for interior designers, architects and collectors, particularly suited for an entry hall, library, study, living room, equestrian residence, ranch property, hospitality project or gallery-style installation. The aged aluminum surface provides an appealing sculptural contrast against plaster, stone, wood paneling and richly colored walls and works equally well in traditional and contemporary interiors.

Collectors of vintage equestrian decor, aluminum sculpture, horse sculptures, European decorative arts, architectural salvage, vintage trade signs and animalier sculpture will appreciate its unusual scale, dimensional construction and wonderfully aged character.
