Executed in oil on cardboard, the painting portrays a lone fisherman beside a calm pond or river at sunset, with a traditional timber-framed cottage and tall trees silhouetted against a glowing sky. Warm gold, rose, and violet tones spread across the evening clouds and shimmer in the water, creating a peaceful and romantic countryside scene.

Henry George Todd was a Suffolk artist associated with still lifes, local landscapes, and genre subjects. His known works include scenes connected with Ipswich and Suffolk, as well as still-life paintings.
