F.W. Hardy was a prominent English flat racing jockey active during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras (primarily the late 1890s and early 1900s). He is best remembered for riding one of British racing's greatest historic fillies, Sceptre, to significant victories.Major Career Highlights

Riding Sceptre: Hardy partnered with the legendary filly Sceptre under her owner-trainer Robert Sievier and later trainer Alec Taylor Jr.

1902 St Leger Stakes: He rode Sceptre to a famous victory in the Doncaster St Leger. Sceptre remains the only horse in history to win four classic outright titles in a single season.

1903 Champion Stakes: Hardy also guided Sceptre to victory in the Champion Stakes at Newmarket.

Stable Roles: He was a highly sought-after lightweight rider. In 1905, he was retained as the first-choice jockey for Lord Westbury and the historic Phantom House stable in Newmarket. See less
