Hand-carved Zimbabwean Shona stone sculpture by artist Luke Office. Executed in dense, dark springstone—a hard variety of serpentine prized by master Shona sculptors—this piece features an elongated modernist head with stylized facial planes and geometric contours. The work highlights the contrasting textures characteristic of contemporary Shona sculpture, juxtaposing a high-luster polished face and neck against the raw, chiseled natural stone surface at the crest and reverse. Hand-incised artist signature "L. OFFICE" near the lower edge.
Provenance: Curated from the private collection of artist Eve Paige Spencer, whose work is held in the permanent collection of the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery at Scripps College, California, and her husband, writer and art collector Donner Spencer.
