Introducing an extraordinary sculptural console table, crafted by a small Italian workshop in the 1950s. This rare and elegant piece encapsulates the refined artistry of mid-century Italian design, reflecting the influence of masters such as Ico Parisi, Paolo Buffa, and Gio Ponti.
The table’s structure is made from ash wood finished in a deep matte black, emphasizing its architectural geometry and sculptural precision. Its beautifully tapered legs express a sense of lightness and poise, while a reversed V-shaped stretcher connects the back legs, providing both stability and a striking visual rhythm. Two subtle brass connectors link the front and rear legs, adding a delicate contrast to the dark wood and enhancing the table’s sophisticated presence. The front legs exhibit a gentle, organic curve, introducing a sense of movement and flow that balances the piece’s structural rigor. At its center, the console features a finely carved drawer, an elegant sculptural element in itself, seamlessly integrated within the design while offering functional storage for small items. Crowning this remarkable structure is a breathtaking marble top that immediately commands attention. The stone displays a dynamic interplay of mustard, brown, and golden tones, richly patterned with swirling veining and crystalline depth. This marble is known as Breccia Pernice, a distinctive Italian breccia marble prized for its dramatic coloration and expressive natural patterning.
Quarried primarily in Northern Italy, Breccia Pernice was frequently used in high-end furniture and architectural details during the 1950s and 1960s for its opulent, painterly surface. In good and fully original condition, the console shows only light wear consistent with age, which enhances its authentic patina and charm. This is not merely a piece of furniture but a refined sculptural statement, an artwork in form and function that would grace any entryway, living room, or interior space with timeless Italian elegance.
