The mirror features a richly shaped mahogany frame with elegant scrolling edges, carved details, and a wonderful architectural silhouette typical of mid-18th century English design. The frame is centred by a bevelled mirror plate, bordered by a decorative giltwood inner slip with carved foliate detail. The gilt finish adds warmth and contrast against the dark polished wood, giving the mirror a refined, country house presence. To the crest is a wonderful carved and gilded phoenix bird, set within an open circular mount, giving the piece a highly decorative and symbolic quality. The phoenix, traditionally associated with renewal and rebirth, adds a dramatic focal point to the mirror. A carved gilt shell motif to the lower section further enhances the Georgian decorative style.
