This piece is attributed to a Minton fabrication although there aren't any identification markings. It is a stunning antique majolica zoomorphic oven casserole or game pie dish made in faience, ceramic, with the details of rabbit and duck on the lid and the bottom of the dish is made to look like a basket. This technique is called 'trompe l'oeil' in which the eye is deceived by what it is seeing.
Fabricated from sometime between 1900-1950. It has been well used and superb in its rustic appearance.
I would not recommend cooking in this any longer although it would make a serving dish. Also it should not be washed in a dishwasher.
There is crazing and the rabbit and duck have some worn paint and glaze. There aren't any chips or cracks.
