The composition portrays an elderly poultry worker seated with a chicken in his lap, surrounded by scattered feathers and the implements of his trade. Rosenthal drew heavily upon memories of New York’s working-class Jewish neighborhoods, frequently portraying street vendors, tradesmen, shopkeepers, and other figures from everyday urban life.

“Chicken Plucker” is one of Rosenthal’s documented compositions. The artist’s original oil version dates to **1958**, and he subsequently produced the image as a color lithograph.

Rosenthal was born in the Bronx in 1921 and became known for figurative works depicting Jewish life, New York street culture, family traditions, and working people.
