Original oil on canvas by Canadian artist **Ronald Davies (1932–1982)**, signed **“R DAVIES”** in the lower right.
This richly textured woodland scene depicts a forest floor filled with rocks, grasses, fallen branches, emerging foliage, and delicate white wildflowers. Davies uses layered brushwork and areas of pronounced impasto to create depth and texture throughout the composition, particularly in the flowers, vegetation, and rocky background.
Ronald Davies was a Montreal-born Canadian painter best known for landscapes and scenes of the Canadian countryside. He studied art in Montreal and is associated with the Canadian landscape tradition. His work is particularly recognized for its expressive handling of paint, strong naturalistic subjects, and atmospheric treatment of the outdoors.
This painting is especially appealing for its intimate woodland subject rather than the more conventional panoramic landscapes often associated with the artist.
The work is presented in a substantial vintage wood frame finished in muted salmon, pale gray, white, and gold tones. The frame has a strong period appearance and complements the earthy palette of the painting.
A distinctive original Canadian landscape painting with excellent decorative presence, well suited to traditional, rustic, cottage, lodge, English country, botanical, or collected interiors.

The surface retains substantial original texture and impasto. The frame shows visible age-related wear, including scattered chips, finish loss, abrasions, and areas of flaking, particularly along the outer gold-painted molding and edges. These imperfections have been retained as part of the vintage presentation and are clearly shown in the photographs. less
