A distinctive Chinese Chaozhou zhuni red clay teapot bearing the impressed seal 章燕城制, translating to “Made by Zhang Yancheng.” Zhang Yancheng is a noted Chaozhou ceramic master associated with the historic Lao Anshun pottery lineage and the traditional hand-pulled teapot craft of Fengxi/Chaozhou.
The teapot features a low, rounded three-footed form with a straight rising spout, loop handle, fitted lid, and extensive hand-incised decoration. One side is engraved with a detailed figural landscape scene, while the reverse carries large calligraphic characters over a finely textured ground. Additional impressed seals appear beneath the lid.
The form is consistent with the Chaozhou hand-pulled zhuni tradition, in which the body is formed on the potter’s wheel rather than slab-built in the manner of traditional Yixing zisha ware. Its three-footed silhouette is reminiscent of historic Shipiao-derived forms while retaining a distinctly individual sculptural character.
A highly decorative and functional example of modern Chinese tea ware, particularly suited to a collection of Chaozhou pottery, Chinese ceramic art, gongfu tea accessories, or scholar’s objects.
