A fantastic and highly collectible pair of vintage Raymor Italian ceramic table lamps, dating to the 1950s–1960s.
The exceptionally tall, slender ceramic bodies feature a matte charcoal-black finish decorated with whimsical incised sgraffito giraffes in contrasting ivory. Each rests on a warm round wood base, giving the pair a wonderful combination of sculptural Italian modernism and playful mid-century design.
Raymor was instrumental in introducing modern European design to the American market during the mid-20th century and is particularly celebrated for its Italian ceramics and decorative objects. These giraffe lamps are a recognizable and wonderfully eccentric Raymor design.
Their unusually narrow proportions make them particularly striking: they have the presence of substantial statement lamps without the visual weight or footprint of a traditional ceramic lamp. Beautiful flanking a sofa, console or credenza, or used as oversized bedside lamps.
