Beneath them are further studies of patterned and textured fur sections, arranged in overlapping layers to demonstrate the different materials available for collars, borders, cuffs and other fashionable garment trimmings. The original french caption reads “pelleteries diverses et bandes pour garnitures,” meaning “various furs and bands for trimmings.” the strong contrasts and almost abstract arrangement give the design a particularly decorative and graphic character.
