The rectangular mirror plate is surrounded by a beautifully turned hardwood frame designed to imitate natural bamboo. Each rail incorporates carefully turned nodes, with the four corners extending beyond the mirror and terminating in distinctive angled spear-like finials. These architectural details give the mirror a particularly sculptural quality and distinguish it from the simpler faux bamboo mirrors produced later in the 20th century.

The timber has developed a warm honey-brown colour with darker detailing around the turned sections and an attractive surface patina accumulated through more than a century of use.

The mirror plate itself displays gentle age-related spotting and imperfections which complement the aged frame rather than detract from it. To the reverse is an old timber backing board secured with small pins, together with historic stencilled inventory or stock markings.

A wonderfully decorative small antique mirror with influences from French Japonisme and the late 19th-century Aesthetic Movement, equally at home amongst antique furniture or in a more contemporary interior. See less
